This video shows how to install a 3 sided reclaimed rustic sawn wood box beam. The crew of a local builder near Greenville in Upstate South Carolina shows the ease of installation and how beautiful a custom box beam can look.
These box beams are made from reclaimed oak timbers that have been resawn to 1/4" thick "skins" that are then laminated to 2 overlapped 1/4" baltic birch plywood substrate. This makes the beams lighter for shipping and installation and sturdier when transporting around the job site. It also makes the beams very straight, sturdy and consistent for texture and coloration.
