This video shows how to install a 2 sided reclaimed fir wood box beam. The crew of a local builder near Asheville in Western North Carolina shows the ease of installation and how beautiful a rustic box beam can look.
These box beams are made from reclaimed fir timbers that have been resawn to 1/4" thick "skins" that are then laminated to 1/2" 10ply baltic birch plywood substrate. This makes the beams lighter for shipping and installation. It also makes the beams very straight, sturdy and consistent for texture and coloration.
