As heart pine lovers, we work with Longleaf pine on a daily basis. In fact, Longleaf Yellow Pine flooring is our specialty, so it’s no wonder we enjoy sharing its rich history!

Longleaf pine, or heart pine, is often deemed “The Wood that Built America,” as settlers chose to build their houses and ships using the slow-growth wood. In fact, heart pine flooring was installed in George Washington’s Mount Vernon home, and the 250-year-old floor remains intact today, in all its luminous glory.

Longleaf Yellow Pine trees take 100+ years to mature, and they can live beyond 500 years! The trees once largely covered the Southeast along the Atlantic and Gulf coasts.

When the Longleaf pine trees grew large enough, they developed what’s called heartwood, or heart content, which can be dark colored. Who knew dark heart could be so radiant!

About 97 percent of the original Longleaf pine trees were logged for timber. Therefore, only a small amount of first-generation Longleaf pine trees remain today.

Heart pine lovers have access to the first-generation 390+ year-old wood via our mill located in Western North Carolina. Our 100% reclaimed wood is obtained from deconstructed factories, and it graces homes throughout North America.
